FIRST SHERPA’S ON THE EVEREST (Mountaineer’s Sherpa Study)
Mount Everest, as the highest peak in the world, has been everyone’s center of interest ever since it was discovered in 1852, at the time, the peak didn’t have confirmed name so they were symbolized by roman figures peak XV, was accepted as the tallest mountain standing at a height of 8848 meter above sea level. This highest mountain lies at the position of latitude: 27°59’17” North and longitude 86°55’31” East. Everest was formed about 60 millions years ago. Everest was named after Sir George Everest in 1865, when they discovered it, George was predecessor as surveyor General; so Everest got it English name, in Tibet it’s called Chomolungma “Goddess mother of the world”. The Chinese name called it Quolongma feng and respectively Nepalese name Sagarmatha means “The goddess of the sky or head of the sky” a name of recent derivation, given by the Nepalese historian Babu Ram Acharya only in 1956. as a highest mountain in Nepal and World have many wonderful, mysteries event happen and happening such as ascend Mount Sagarmatha, for publicity, fame adventurous game many Sherpas have already set up different records. Which are detially shown below in Sherpa context especially.
  1. 3rd June 1950:8000 Meter Mountain Summiter : Mr late Ang Tharkay Sherpa was the first 8000 meter mountain summiteers person in 3rd June 1950, at French Annapurna expedition in 1950. Mr Tharkay was too popular climber of his time. Mr. Sherpa was first person to achieve the “Legion of honour” from French Government.
  2. 29th May 1953: Ascend On Mount Everest: First summit Mount Everest on 29th May, 1953 by late Tenzing Norgay sherpa of Nepal and late Sir Edmund Percival Hillary of New Zealand via the south-east ridge route. ( Lothse face is the south east ridge)
  3. 20th May 1965: Double Ascend On Mount Everest: Mr. Nawang Gombu Sherpa on 20th may 1965 becomes the first person to summit Everest twice. Both summits via the south East Ridge, his first ascend as a member of Jim Whittaker’s American Expedition in 1963, and second on Indian Everest expedition in 1965, out of the first seventeen summit of Everest, Nawang Gombu had two of them.
  4. 16th Oct. 1978: First Ascend Everest without Oxygen: Mr. Ang Dorjee Sherpa summit on Everest in 16th Oct. 1978, without the use of oxygen bottle via the south East Ridge.
  5. 5th May 1988: First Crossed On Mount Everest: Mr. Ang Phurba Sherpa summit Mount Everest south side from Nepal and Descend from North side China land. The expedition was organized by Nippon Television Company of Japan; at this expedition Tri-Nation (China- Nepal- Japan friendship expedition) Mountaineers are involved, the crossed image direct transmission by Nippon Television Company, Nepal Television, American, and Australian & South Korean channel also transmission such a huge mountaineer history.
  6. 10th May 1988: Most Ascend On Eeverest: Mr. Sungdare Sherpa was born in 1956 in Telyeam Pangboche village, Solukhumbu, Nepal. He is known for reaching the top of Everest in 2nd Oct. 1979, 21st Oct. 1981, 5th Oct. 1982, 29th April 1985, and 10th May 1988 respectively. All total five times. He was awarded the honour of Gorkha Dakshinbahu First and Trishaktipatta First by Nepalese Government. He passed away in 1989.
  7. 23rd April 1990:Bivouac On Everest: Four Nepalese bivouac at more than 8800 meter 28870 ft in their descend from the summit of Everest on the height 23rd April 1990.they are Ang Rita Sherpa, on his records breaking sixth ascend of Everest, Ang Kami Sherpa (B.1952) , Passang Norbu Sherpa (B. 1963) and Top Bhadur Khatri (B.1960).
  8. 23rd April 1993: Woman Ascend On Everest: Late Passang Lahmu Sherpa was the first Mount Everest summiteers woman from Nepal. She summit Everest on 23rd April 1993. She passed away during her Expedition in the same year. This feat bought worldwide attention not only to herself, but also Nepali to, and especially Sherpa woman of Nepal. Nepal Government honoured her with the “NEPAL TARA” Medal, issued stamp of her picture in 1994 and Nepal Government declared “National Hero” on 23rd April 2002. Mrs. Sherpa was the first Nepali Everest Summiteers to Mount Everest to be declared National Hero.
  9. 10th Oct 1996: Summit Everest By Wearing Different Dress: Mr. Lopsang Jangbu Sherpa, scaled Mount Everest three times, each time wearing different dress, Bakhu– Sherpa dress, Daura surwal-National dress of Nepal, and a Karate uniform in 1994, 1995, and 1996 respectively.
10.  23rd Oct 1996: All Ascend Without Oxygen: Ang Rita Sherpa (snow leopard of the Himalayas) was born in 1949 in Hilajung, Thamo Solukhumbu Nepal. He is known as being the only        person to top Mount Everest 10 times from (in 1983, 1984, 1985, 1987, 1988, 1990, 1992, 1993, 1995, and 1996) each ascends without the use of bottle of oxygen. Because of his feats, he was awarded the honours of Gorkha Dakshinbahu First and Trishaktipatta First respectively by the Nepalese Government of Nepal.
11.   23rd May 1997:Most Generation To Summit Mt. Everest: After the first ascend of Mount Everest by Tenzing Norgay Sherpa in 29th May 1953, his son Jamling Norgay Sherpa summit Mount Everest in 23rd Oct. 1996 and the grand son of Tenzing Norgay Sherpa of Tashi Wangchuk Tenzing Sherpa, Nepal, climbed the world highest Mountain in 23rd May 1997. Records of three generation of the Tenzing family have now climbed the highest Mountain of the world.
12.   28th July 1997: First Ascend On Mt. Godwin Austin (K2): First Nepalese summit on Mount Godwin Austin (K2) on 28th July 1997 by Mr. Dawa Tashi Sherpa, Mr. Gyalbu Sherpa, Mr. Pemba Dorjee Sherpa, and Mr. Mingma Tsiri Sherpa of Gaurishankar-1, Dolkha, Nepal. All four summit via the south west ridge. Basically K2 was not so popular like Everest but technically difficult to climb than Mount Everest as well as other 8000 meter mountain. So climb K2 was great achievement than other 8000 meter peaks to the climbers as a second highest mountain in the world.
13.  17th Oct. 1998: Fastest Ascend On Everest: Mr. passang Kaji Sherpa (speed) Summit Mount Everest in a 17th Oct. 1998, in a record ascend in 20 hour 24 minutes, from Everest base camp to the summit of Mount Everest on,14th May 1995, Passang  Kaji scaled Everest wearing Daura-Suruwal the National Dress of Nepal.
14.  6th May 1999: Longest Time Staying on Everest Top: Mr. Babu Chhiri Sherpa holds the record for staying on the summit for the longest period of time. He stayed on the summit for 21 hour without the use of oxygen bottle in 6th May 1999. He also holds the records for the fastest time to ascend Everest on 21st May 2000. He scaled Everest clocking a time of 16 hour 56 minutes, breaking the records of 20 hour
24 minutes set by Passang Kaji Sherpa in 1998.Mr. Sherpa respectively Twice climbed on Everest in 1995, in the same season, nobody summit twice in same season in Mount Everest before him.
15.  28th May 1999: Aascend Everest From Different Route: Mr. Kusang Dorjee Sherpa summit Everest on 10th May 1993 via the standard South East Ridge, next he summited via the North East Ridge route on 17th May 1996 and his third summit were via the Khangsung Face of Everest on 28th May 1999. Nobody ever ascend Mount Everest from such a Differ Route. Before him on the highest point of the world.
16.  23rd May 2001: Youngest Ascend on Everest: Mr. Temba Chhiri Sherpa (16 years) of Nepal is the first youngest Mountaineer to successfully climb Mount Everest from North Ridge on 23rd May 2001.
17.  16th May 2002: Summit Everest From Both Side: Miss Pemba Doma Sherpa is the third Nepalese woman to successfully climb Mount Everest from both sides, she first scaled Mount Everest from North side and become the first Nepalese woman to climb Everest from North side on 29th May 2000, and from South side on 16th May 2002 respectively.
18.  22nd May 2003: Latest Youngest Everest Summiter: Ms. Mingkipa Sherpa Nepal reached the summit of Mount Everest on 22nd May 2003 at the age of 14year 9 month. She made the climbed with her brother Mr. Mingma Gyula Sherpa and sister Ms Lakpa Sherpa. All three were climbing in support of a Romanian Everest Expedition 2003 team from North side.
19.  22nd May 2003:Two Sister on  Summit of Everest: Ms Mingkipa Sherpa and Ms Lakpa Sherpa (both Nepal) reached the summit of Mount Everest on 22nd May 2003, they made the double sister ascent on top of Everest at same time, on the highest point of the world.
20.  22nd May 2003: Two Sister & a Brother On Summit Of Everest: Ms Mingkipa Sherpa, Ms Lakpa Sherpa, and Mr. Mingma Gyula Sherpa summit Mount Everest altogether in 22nd May 2003 from North Side.
21.  22nd May 2003: Journalist Everest Summiter: Mr. Ang Chhiring  Sherpa, correspondent of Kantipur Daily from Nepal successfully climbed Everest on 22nd May 2003. He is the first Nepalese Journalist to climb the top of the world.
22.  26th May 2003: 3 Brother On Summit Of Everest: Mr. Lakpa Gelu Sherpa, Mr. Danuru Sherpa, and Mr. Jangbu Sherpa, all three Brothers scaled Mount Everest 26th May 2003 on same day.
23.  26th May 2003: Fastest Ascend On Everest: Mr. Lakpa Gelu Sherpa summit Mount Everest within 10 hour 56 minutes, from Base camp of Mount Everest to the top of Mount Everest in 26th May 2006.
24.  16th May 2004: Amputee Ascend on Everest: Mr. Nawang Sherpa scaled Mount Sagarmatha (Everest) despite being an amputee on 16th May 2004 and stayed on summit 51 minutes. Mr. Sherpa was first Sherpa amputee Everest summiter from Himalayan Country Nepal.
25.  21st May 2004: Latest Fastest Ascend On Everest: Mr. Pemba Dorjee Sherpa (Nepal) climbed from base camp to the summit of Mount Everest in a time of 8 hour 10 minutes, on 21st May 2004. This is the fastest ever ascend of the world’s tallest Mountain.
26.  30th May 2005: Married On Everest Top: Ms Munemulay Pati Sherpa and Mr. Pemba Dorjee Sherpa of Nepal scaled Mount Everest together and got married on top of the world on 30th May 2005.
27.  11th May 2006: Most Ascend Of Everest By Woman: Ms Lakpa Sherpa (Nepal) reached the summit of Mount Everest for the Sixth time on 11th May 2006. No one any woman has successfully summit Mount Everest before her.
28.  22nd May 2006: Fastest Time From North Base Camp To South Base Camp: Mr Dawa Sherpa becomes first speed climb records on Everest. He scaled Mount Everest from the base camp in Tibet side and descended Mount Everest base camp in Nepal. His feat was begin on 21st May 2006 at 9 pm from Tibet side base camp and conquered the summit at 8:40 am on 22nd May and reached the Everest base camp of Nepal at 5:15 pm the same day, in 2006.
29.  24th May 2006: Half Nude On Everest: Mr. Lakpa Tharke Sherpa (25 yrs) of Khumjung-9, Solukhumbu climbs Mount Everest on 24th May 2006 and took rest three minutes on the top in naked position of upper part of his body in a surrounding temperature of minus 40 degree centigrade.
30.  16th 2007: Jointly Released Book On Everest: First time in history, Mr. Apa Sherpa & Mr.Lakpa Gelu Sherpa jointly released a book named “Sagarmathako adhar sibirbata (from the Everest base Camp)” at the top of the Mount Everest on 16th May 2007 at 8:45 am. The writer of the book is Mr. Prateek Dhakal of Kathmandu-35, Nepal. The publisher of this book is Makalu Publication of Kathmandu Nepal
31.   22nd May 2007: Thrice Ascend Mt. Everest On Same Season: Mr. Tshering Dorjee Sherpa of Lamabagar VDC of Dolkha Summit Mount Everest on 22nd May 2007, Thrice ascend on same season. Nobody Summit Mount Everest such a much Time before him such a high place.
32.  23rd May 2007:4 Brother On The Summit Of Everest: Mr. Pema Tharke Sherpa, Mr. Mingma chhiri Sherpa, Mr. Thundu Sherpa and Mr. Pasang Tenzing Sherpa, all four brothers scaled Mount Everest on 23rd May 2007, on same time.
33.   23rd May 2007: Most Sibling To Have Summit Mt. Everest: After climbing Mt Everest by Mr. Pema Tharke Sherpa of Dolakha on 23rd May 2007, a new world record is built by all seven son of same parent born. the successful climber are Late Ang Chhiring Sherpa (once in 1999), Mr. Nima Temba Sherpa (once in 1992), Mr. Pema Tharke Sherpa (once in 2007), Mr. Nima Gombu Sherpa (15th times including china side during 1993-2010), Mr. Mingma Chhiri Sherpa (15th times including china side during 1995-2010), Mr. Thundu Sherpa (5th times during 2003-2010 all from Nepal side), and Mr. Pasang Tenzing Sherpa(6th times including China side during 2003-2010).
34.  5th May: 2008: Oldest Ascend On Everest: Mr. Min Bhadur Sherchan resident of Myagdi District, at the age of 76 yrs 11th Month 6 days had successfully climbed Mount Everest on 5th May 2008. He became the oldest person to reach on the top of the world.
35.  22nd May 2008: Most People Ascend On a Day: On the day of 22nd May 2008, there was a record of highest person of 135 to reach on the top of Mount Everest so far.
36.  Feb. 2009: Ascend All Highest Mountain Of Each Continent: Mr. Lakpa Rita Sherpa, 43 has become the first Sherpa to climb all the highest Mountain of each continent, his seven Summit was start Mount Everest in 1990 & finish his last in Feb. 2009  of Mount Kilimanjaro.
37.  20th May 2010::Latest Most Ascend On Everest: Mr. Apa Sherpa (50years) of Nepal successfully climb Mount Everest 20th times on 20th May 2010. The most time any one has ever successfully climbed the world’s highest mountain.
38.  All 8000 Meter Mountain Of World: Mr. Mingma Sherpa of Sankhuwasabha District get his name into the annals of Mountaineering to climbed all 14th 8000 meter Mountain of world, Become the first Nepalese climber to have climbed all 8000 meter Mountain peaks in the world.
